Why is it important to have
your hearing tested?
Hearing loss often occurs gradually, so it’s not uncommon for people to be unaware that their hearing isn’t as healthy as it used to be. The only way to know for certain is through a hearing evaluation. Just as you visit your dentist for regular checkups, or have your eyes tested annually, it’s important to have regular hearing tests performed. Most insurances cover a hearing evaluation annually.
How to Choose the Right Hearing Aid
The hearing aids we carry are prescription medical devices regulated by the FDA. These hearing aids are professionally fine-tuned to fit your unique hearing needs based off the results of your audiogram. Prescription hearing aids can only be prescribed by a hearing care provider, such as the audiologists at Ear Works Audiology.
A new model of hearing devices have become available for purchase at retailers: over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. These devices do not require a prescription and are self-fit. We do not sell OTC hearing aids at our offices. These types of devices are not programmed to your unique hearing needs. To determine what device would best help you, the first step is a hearing test. At Ear Works Audiology, we provide diagnostic hearing tests, hearing aid services, and ongoing support. Contact us today to schedule a hearing test and discover custom solutions that can help you hear better.
Hearing Wellness
Ear Works Audiology has been on a hearing wellness mission and has been offering complimentary hearing screenings* to the residents of Long Island for years in order to help people take the first step in their hearing healthcare. A hearing screening is a pass-or-fail test that checks only four frequencies; if you pass this screening then we recommend that you follow-up in one year. If you fail this screening then we recommend a complete audiological evaluation that will determine the degree and type of hearing loss that is present. *Must be 18 years old for hearing screening test
At Ear Works, we believe that each patient should have a comprehensive diagnostic audiological evaluation in order to assess if a hearing loss is present and to determine what treatment is needed if a hearing loss is found. This evaluation is billed through insurance. This test is covered by most insurance plans and individuals may be responsible for only a copay or deductible.
At Ear Works Audiology all our licensed audiologists are doctors of audiology. The scope of practice of an audiologist includes the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with hearing and balance disorders. Only after the type of hearing loss is identified and the diagnosis is made can a treatment be recommended. All hearing losses are not treatable by hearing aids. Some hearing losses need to be treated medically by a physician. We recommend that all individuals over the age of 55 have an annual audiological evaluation.
